Coach Anne wins Queen's Medal

  

Anne Ottenbrite has been selected on behalf of His Excellency the Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada to be the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

This new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. This Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. Anne will be among all Order of Canada members invited to receive the Diamond Jubilee Medal for significant achievement and remarkable service. Anne will be joined bu several former vice-regal representatives and other notable Canadians who will be a part of the presentations.

The Diamond Jubilee Gala Celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Life of Service will be on Monday June 18th at Roy Thomson Hall.

Pickering Recreation Complex

The Pickering Swim Club is proud to be using the best short-course swimming facility in Southern Ontario.

The Recreation Complex swimming pool boasts an 8 lane 25 metre competition pool which has ample deck space and bleachers for spectators.

The Recreation Complex also has an excellent fitness facility with private and public change rooms and a 3 rink ice pad.

The Recreation Complex is located just off Brock Road and Hwy 401 and has several excellent hotels within a 5 minute drive, as well as restaurants and shopping plazas.

Congratulations to the 27 swimmers who qualified for the 2015 ManSask Long Course Championships in Winnipeg. We had 107 best times, taking off a combined 289.31 seconds!! Congratulations to Viktor Vragovic in Blue 1 who took off the most time – 60.81 seconds. We set 10 new Pickering Swim Club records. Congratulations to Warren Mayer who set 4 new individual records, and Evan Cvitkovic who set 1 new individual record. Congratulations to  Aidan, Brandon, Daniel, Jamie, Jenna, Joseph, Katrina, Nader, Paige, Renee, Scott, and Tyler who set 5 new relay records. Great swims everyone!!

Congratulations to the 9 swimmers who qualified for the 2015 Swim Ontario 13 & Under Summer Festival in London. We had 32 best times, taking off a combined 188.25 seconds!! Congratulations to Jasmin Jaswal in Blue 1 who took off the most time – 56.93 seconds. Congratulations to Maeve Atkinson who set a new Pickering Swim Club record in the 9-10 year old girls 100 m butterfly with a time of 1:21.78. On the podium was Aiden Malesich with a gold medal in 200 m back, and Ryan Tapp with a silver medal in 50 m breast and a bronze medal in 100 m breast. Great swims everyone!!

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed at the 2015 Central Region Long Course Championships. We had 89 best times, taking off a combined 378.75 seconds!! Congratulations to Maeve Atkinson in Blue 1 who took off the most time – 49.50 seconds. Congratulations to Warren Mayer who was selected to Team Ontario at the 2015 Arena Pro Swim Series at Charlotte. He had 2 best times, taking off 1.54 seconds. He set 2 club records in the 50 m free (24.77) and 100 free (53.92), as well as finalling in the 50 m breast (18th) and 100 m breast (31st). Way to go Warren!!

Congratulations to Warren Mayer who continued setting records at the 2015 Ontario Age Group Championships. Warren set four new Pickering Swim Club short course records for 15 – 16 year old boys in the 100 breast (1:02.55), 100 fly (56.62), 200 free (1:52.36), and 200 IM (2:05.37). Way to go Warren!!

Warren set SIX new Pickering Swim Club short course records for 15 – 16 year old boys in the 50 Free (23.36), 100 Free (51.26), 50 Breast (28.67), 100 breast (1:02.93), 50 fly (25.49), and 200 IM (2:07.10). Way to go Warren!!

Congratulations to Warren Mayer who represented Swim Ontario at the Ontario Junior International Meet hosted at the new Pan Am pool. Warren came 5th in the 100 breast, taking off 1.27 seconds while setting a new club record in prelims and breaking this record in finals – 1:03.08!! Warren was also a member of 4 relay teams – earning 3 silvers and 1 bronze. Way to go Warren!!

To all the swimmers who competed at the Barrie Aquafest Meet. We had 207 best times, taking off a combined 724.58 seconds!! Congratulations to Maeve Atkinson in Blue 1 who took off the most time – 77.91 seconds. Great swims everyone!!

To all the swimmers who competed at the first home meet of the season – the Pickering Spring Meet. We had 469 best times, taking off a combined 3267 seconds!! Congratulations to Graydon Hughes in Dev 2 who took off the most time – 144.21 seconds. Great swims everyone!!

To Janica, Kalista, Liam, Jamie, Meghan, Tyler, Nicole, Amy and Alex who travelled to Indiana to compete at the Enchanted Forest Meet. We had 22 best times, taking off a combined 86.71 seconds. Congratulations to Liam Bonnor in Purple who took off the most time – 26.89 seconds.   

Coach Anne was very proud of the following top 10 finishes:  Janica Baylon – 8th in 100 back; Tyler Olson – 1st in 400 free, 2nd  in 200 free, 3rd in 100 fly and 100 free, 4th in 200 back and 200 fly, 7th in 50 free; Nicole Petroff – 6th in 1500 free; Amy Smith – 1st in 100 and 200 breast, 3rd in 200 IM; Alex Vragovic – 7th in 50 free. There were also lots of second swims in consolation finals as well!!   

Coach Anne reports that the meet was very exciting and the American team loved our Canadian tattoos and exchanging caps. She is very proud of all the performances and everyone represented the Pickering Swim Club with pride!!

To Evan, Jacob, Alexia, Nick, Warren, Tyler, Amy, Jenna, Nader and Alex who qualified to compete at the 2014 Ontario Long Course Provincial Championships in Brantford. We had 16 best times, taking off a combined 20.75 seconds. Congratulations to Tyler Olson in Red 2 who took off the most time – 7.43 seconds.   

Coach Anne was very pleased with the following top 8 finishes:  Warren Mayer – 1st in 100 breast, 2nd in 100 fly, 5th in 50 free, 7th in 100 free and 200 breast; Tyler Olson – 8th in 800 free; Amy Smith – 6th in 100 Breast and 8th in 200 Breast. Great swims!!

To Warren Mayer who set THREE Pickering Swim Club records this past weekend at the Amanda Reason Invitational Meet!! Warren broke the previous records with his swims in 50 Free (24.94), 50 Breast (29.17), and 100 Breast (1:07.25). He also qualified for Senior Nationals with his 50 breaststroke swim. Way to go Warren!!

To Warren Mayer set a new Pickering Swim Club record this past weekend at the GHAC Spring Long Course Invitational Meet!! Warren broke the previous record set by Adam Gomba in 2008 in the 50 m butterfly with a time of 27.97 seconds. Way to go Warren!!

To all the swimmers who competed this past weekend at the GHAC Spring Long Course Invitational Meet. We had 219 best times, taking off a combined 1813.99 seconds (that’s over 30 minutes)!! Congratulations to Ryan Panela in Red 1 who took off the most time – 128.91seconds. Great swims everyone!!

To Su Kin Cheong, our newest Level V Master Official in Central Region with Swim Ontario, after successfully completing a Level V Evaluation as Referee at sessions of the Swim Ontario Age Group Championships meet (Provincials), in London.

To Warren Mayer set 3 new Pickering Swim Club records and won gold at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships!! Warren broke his previous record in the 50 m butterfly in prelims – and then broke his own record again in the finals. He broke his previous record in the 50 m breaststroke on his way to a gold medal performance. Way to go Warren – we are very proud of your success!!

To the 25 swimmers who qualified for Central Region 13 & Over Short Course Championships. We had 50 best times, taking off a combined 79.91 seconds!! Congratulations to Janica Baylon in Purple who took off the most time – 10.64 seconds. Great swims everyone!!

To all the swimmers for their great swims at Winterfest. We had 505 best times, taking off a combined 3503.83 seconds!! Special recognition goes to Vanessa Estrada in Dev 2 who was the most improved swimmer, taking off 125.96 seconds. Great work everyone!!

To five swimmers from the Pickering Swim Club who qualified with Ontario provincial standards in order to compete at the Ontario Cup 2014 held at the University of Toronto.  Evan Cvitkovic, Jacob Dosen, Emily Mayer, Warren Mayer, and Amy Smith swam with vigour and represented the club admirably.  Amy Smith achieved the best time in her 50 Back taking 0.45 seconds off with a time of 32.86 seconds.

To Tim Newman for receiving his SNC certification on January 6th as a new Level 3 Official in Central Region!
