Pickering’s Dev A, Dev B and Red group swimmers enjoyed a winning weekend at the MAC 2018 Rising Star #1 event in Markham, earning five podium finishes, more than 100 personal bests and the experience of competing in an international-calibre facility.
Nicholas Gunter (Boys, 2007) was Pickering’s top medal winner, with one gold and one bronze. His time of 3 minutes, 44.07 seconds topped the field in the 200m individual medley, and he took third place in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1:24.86.
Four more bronze medals went to Pickering swimmers, including Julia Bell (Girls, 2006) in the 200m IM; Malaiya Maglantay (Girls, 2007) in the 50m backstroke; Noah McFarland (Boys, 2006) in the 200m IM; and Audrey Ross (Girls, 2010) in the 100m butterfly.
The meet was hosted by the Markham Aquatic Club (MAC) at that city’s Pam Am Centre on November 3rd and 4th, making it the first away meet for several of Pickering’s 50 young entrants.
All told, Pickering swimmers took 630.36 seconds off their personal best times. Top-drop honours went to Masha Rajasingham (Girls, 2008), who cut 42.32 seconds from her previous bests. She was followed by Jessica Baciu (Girls, 2006) with 40.22 seconds off, and Reid D’Souza (Boys, 2008) with 38.71.
