Leif Bouwman (Boys, 2004) carried a big load for a small Pickering squad at the 2018 Dash for Cash in Guelph, Ont., winning eight of the team’s 18 medals and earning meet MVP honours. Leif displayed great versatility by medalling in each stroke plus the individual medley. In addition to winning three silver and two bronze in various strokes, he captured gold in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m IM.
Only Pickering’s Gold group competed at the meet, which awarded prizes of $50 to $200 to the winners of select events.
Jasmine Jaswal (Girls, 2004), Madeleine Malesich (Girls, 2003) and Callie McGilley (Girls, 2003) each won silver and bronze medals at Dash for Cash, which was hosted by the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club from December 7 to 9.
Pickering’s other medalists were Ryan Tapp (Boys, 2004), Sarah Lacy (Girls, 2004), Paige Macleod (Girls, 2001) and Brianna Regan (Girls, 2003).
The club’s 13 entrants combined for 253.68 seconds off their personal bests, led by Madeleine Malesich with 44.84 seconds, David Harvie (Boys, 2005) with 35.85 seconds, and Jesus Baylon with 34.56 seconds.
