Pickering Swim Club Program Information

Our Programs

Pickering Swim Club offers Pre-Competitive and Competitive programs for swimmers at different stages of development.

All new swimmers complete an assessment with our coaching staff before joining a program. Coaches use the assessment to recommend the program and training group that best matches each swimmer’s current skills, experience, and readiness.

Please note that Pickering Swim Club is not a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers should already be comfortable and independent in the water.

Pre-Competitive FUNdamentals

FUNdamentals introduces swimmers to competitive swimming through small-group coaching focused on technique, skills, and confidence.

What to expect

  • One one-hour practice each week
  • Eight- to ten-session programs
  • Small-group coaching
  • Programs for swimmers 12 and under and swimmers 13 and over

At the end of each session, coaches assess swimmers for readiness to move into the Competitive program. Advancement is by coach invitation and is subject to available space.

Competitive Programs

Our Competitive program provides progressive training in swimming technique, fitness, race skills, and competition.

What to expect

  • Two to eight training sessions per week, depending on group
  • Approximately six to twelve meets per season, depending on group
  • Progressive training and group expectations throughout the season
  • Family volunteering at Pickering Swim Club hosted meets

Training-group placement is determined by the coaching staff based on each swimmer’s age, skills, experience, and readiness.

Placement and Progression

Swimmers progress through Pickering Swim Club based on their overall development. Coaches consider skills, attendance, commitment, effort, maturity, readiness, and competitive performance when making placement and advancement decisions.
