Safety In Sport
Sport safety is at the core of our club environment. Pickering Swim Club is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment where all participants, coaches, officials, volunteers, staff, and families can participate and thrive, both in and out of the pool.
Creating a safe sport environment is a shared responsibility. Everyone in our club community has a role in promoting kindness, fairness, integrity, open communication, and mutual respect.
Pickering Swim Club and Swim Ontario are committed to ensuring that all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. All members of our community are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with:
- Swim Ontario’s values and expectations;
- Swimming Canada Safe Sport requirements;
- Swim Ontario’s Comprehensive Code of Conduct and Ethics; and
- Pickering Swim Club’s policies, procedures, and expectations.
These expectations apply to athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents/guardians, and all individuals participating in club-related activities.
Code of Conduct
The Swim Ontario Code of Conduct outlines expectations for athletes, coaches, officials, and families. It applies to all sanctioned activities and competitions.

Maintaining a safe sport environment is a shared responsibility. Some concerns may be appropriately addressed through club leadership, including the Head Coach, Club President, or designated club representative, where an individual feels safe and comfortable doing so.
Concerns may be submitted directly through the Swim Ontario complaint reporting process when an individual does not feel safe raising the matter at the club level, when the concern may involve a breach of Swim Ontario’s Bylaws, Policies, Procedures, or Comprehensive Code of Conduct and Ethics, or when it is not appropriate for the matter to be addressed internally.
Complaints Process
The Swim Ontario Complaints Procedure applies to alleged violations of bylaws, policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct and Ethics, and is intended for matters related to conduct and integrity.
If a concern does not fall under the Swim Ontario Complaints Procedure (for example, coaching decisions or training group placement), it should be directed to the Head Coach or Club President so it can be addressed through the appropriate club process.
