Understanding Placement & Group Movement

Placement and movement between training groups are determined by the coaching staff and are based on each swimmer's overall development rather than any single factor. Coaches consider a combination of:

Attendance & Commitment

Consistent participation and readiness to meet the expectations of the training group.

Attitude & Effort

Coachability, teamwork, a positive approach, and willingness to learn.

Technique & Skills

Stroke development, efficiency, and the ability to apply skills during training and competition.

Ambition & Motivation

Personal goals, commitment to improvement, and desire to continue progressing.

Maturity & Readiness

Ability to manage the expectations, training environment, and responsibilities of the group.

Performance & Results

Competitive performance, fitness, and achievement of group-specific standards where applicable.

Advancement from Pre-Competitive FUNdamentals

Participation in a Pre-Competitive FUNdamentals session does not guarantee placement in the competitive program. Advancement to the competitive program is by coach invitation only.

Swimmers considered for advancement must demonstrate the required swimming proficiency and readiness for competitive training, including the ability to complete and race distances according to Swim Canada competition rules, as well as the commitment to participate in swim meets.
