As members of the Pickering Swim Club (PICK), we are committed to creating an environment that is free of comments or behaviours that are disrespectful, offensive, abusive, racist or sexist. Our athletic environment, while competitive, must also be safe, positive and conducive to the development of self-esteem, achievement of goals, sportsmanship and fun.

Membership in the Pickering Swim Club extends for the swim season of September 1 to August 31 and is subject to review each year.

All swimmers registered with Swim Ontario must sign the Swim Ontario Code of Conduct. As a club, we defer to this code of conduct and will follow the Swim Ontario Discipline and Appeal Procedure.

Above and beyond the Swim Ontario Code of Conduct, PICK members are part of our Pickering Swim Club community and need to reflect our team culture.

A PICK swimmer is expected to be:

  • Respectful and polite towards coaches, all other swimmers, lifeguards, staff and officials while at Pickering facilities and in other locations.
  • Present and willing to give 100% at scheduled training sessions and aware that attendance is essential to success and development.
  • Punctual and arrives on deck prior to practice start times as directed by their coach.
  • Prepared to train and has the required equipment at every practice, including goggles, fins and caps.
  • Supportive of their teammates, demonstrates good sportsmanlike behaviour and does not interfere with the training of their teammates.
  • Proud to wear their PICK-branded cap and other branded gear at every meet.
  • Dedicated to every opportunity for success, attending meets, championships and finals to the best of their ability.
  • Committed to the team, the coach, their parents or guardians and, most importantly, themselves.

PICK parents and guardians are expected to:

  • Assist their swimmer in understanding what is expected of them as an athlete and a teammate.
  • Guide their swimmer toward being intrinsically motivated.
  • Be respectful, polite and positive towards coaches, all other swimmers, lifeguards, staff and officials while at Pickering facilities, in other locations and on social media platforms.
  • Follow the rules and regulations at each facility where we practise or compete.
  • Recognize that only coaches have the authority to question or appeal the decisions of officials at swim meets.
  • Accept the coach’s group placement recommendations for their swimmer, based on a holistic review of the swimmer’s abilities.
  • Supervise their swimmer at activities and events outside of practices and meets, including the awards banquet and year-end barbecue.

Parents and guardians are asked to remember that:

  • Interrupting coaches while they are working disrupts practice and distracts swimmers.
  • Walking on deck during practice or at a meet without permission and proper authority is a safety risk for both you and the swimmers in attendance.
  • Watching practice is permitted only from the appropriate locations:
    • Chestnut Hill Recreation Complex: From the upstairs gallery.
    • TPASC training pool: From the upstairs gallery.
    • TPASC competition pool: From the eastern stands.
    • Dunbarton: Parents are not permitted to watch practice because there is no spectator area.

To speak to your athlete’s coach, please arrange in advance to meet with them before or after training.
