Calendars, Schedules and Club Events
Pickering Swim Club uses several calendars and schedules to help families keep track of practices, swim meets and other club activities. Your swimmer’s Training-Group Google Calendar provides the most current information, while the other schedules help families plan for the season as a whole.
Quick Links
Training-Group Google Calendars
Under Events & Schedules → Calendars, you will find a separate Google Calendar for each training group. Your swimmer’s Training-Group Google Calendar is the most current source for:
- Practice dates and times
- Practice locations
- Schedule changes
If you have a Google Account, you can add your swimmer’s Training-Group Calendar to your own Google Calendar and choose reminders or email alerts. Teen swimmers can also add the calendar to their own Google Account.
When a swimmer changes groups, families should add the new Training-Group Google Calendar and remove or hide the previous one.
Step 1
Add Your Training-Group Calendar
Open the club’s Calendars page, select your swimmer’s group, and choose Add the Calendar below the Training-Group Google Calendar.
Step 2
Choose Your Alerts
In Google Calendar, open Settings and select the PICK Training-Group Calendar from your list of calendars.
- Choose a reminder before practices.
- Turn on email alerts for new events.
- Turn on email alerts for changed and cancelled events.

Practice and Seasonal Planning
Regular Practice Schedule
The Regular Practice Schedule provides an overview of the usual weekly practice times and locations for every training group.
Practice schedules can and do change throughout the season to accommodate swim meets, winter weather, facility closures and other operational needs. For current practice dates, times, locations and schedule changes, always check your swimmer’s Training-Group Google Calendar.
Start-Up Schedule
At the beginning of the season, PICK uses a staggered start-up to help swimmers return to the water and gradually build back into their regular training schedule.
Practice times and locations may differ during this period as the club works around facility availability. All start-up practices are also added to the appropriate Training-Group Google Calendar.
Seasonal Events Calendar
This calendar provides the big picture for the season, including swim meets, social events, parent meetings, club activities, vacations and training breaks.
It is a season-planning document and may change as meet and event information becomes available.
Swim Meets
Coaches select the meets PICK will attend and determine which training groups or swimmers will participate. Some meets are selected for particular training groups. Others are qualifying meets, which means swimmers must achieve a specified time to attend.
Meet Participation Is Opt-Out
Families do not need to sign swimmers up for each meet. When a meet is scheduled for your swimmer’s training group, or your swimmer qualifies for a qualifying meet, PICK will treat your swimmer as attending unless you notify Coach Lisa before the opt-out deadline she provides. If your swimmer can attend, no response is required. This process allows PICK to submit entries on time and secure the club's place in the meet.
Once the deadline has passed, the swimmer’s account will be charged and the entry fees cannot be refunded.
Meet Dates and Session Times
Meet dates are usually available well in advance, but session assignments, warm-up times and start times may not be finalized until the week of the meet. Meet managers must first review the entries from all participating clubs to determine the session structure and length.
Meets do not all divide swimmers into the same age categories or use the same session format. A swimmer who competes in a morning session at one meet may swim in an afternoon session at another.
Families are committing to the scheduled day or weekend, not to a particular session time. Families should plan to remain available for the applicable dates until the final meet information has been provided.
Social Events and Parent Meetings
PICK hosts social activities for swimmers and families, along with parent meetings for individual training groups. Parent meetings give coaches, swimmers and families an opportunity to discuss how the group is progressing, learn what to expect and ask questions.
These activities appear in the Seasonal Events Calendar and may also be added to the appropriate Training-Group Google Calendars. Open the individual event for the most current details and any registration instructions.
